It's been a busy month, and I just realized it's been awhile since my last blog. We are all doing well and enjoying this nice spring weather! Here's the latest news from the Evans house:
-A couple of weeks ago, Holly outstretcher her arms and said, "Mommy, I'm hugging the world!"
-Max really fought teeth brushing for quite awhile, but it's going a bit easier these days. He allows me to brush his teeth without too much of a fight when I ask him if random objects are in his mouth. "Do you have any dinosaurs in there? Do I see a flower in your mouth?" He says, "No," in a convincing voice and opens his mouth so I can see.
-Holly recently had surgery to place tubes in her ears since she's had fluid in there that just wouldn't go away for months. A couple of hours after her surgery, she flushed the toilet and said, "Wow that's loud." Later, she was coloring with markers and said, "Mommy, I can hear when my marker gets dry."
-Holly is fascinated with two subjects right now: step parents and Heaven. We seem to talk about these subjects quite a bit.
-Speaking of Heaven, Max fixes his hands and bows his little head for the blessing now before dinner. :)
- Holly is reading! She's mastered "The Fat Cat" (her first book she's read completely by herself) and is doing very well with a phonics game in which she adds vowels to form words. I think her hearing issue was having a big impact on learning about sounds, because she's really taken off since surgery.
- Max had his yearly Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) assessment a week or two ago, and he's just doing great! He's actually on target with gross and fine motor skills, a tad behind in language, but way ahead in cognitive ability. He completely charmed his PT, PT assistant and developmental coordinator at the assessment. He's quite a flirt!
- We are going to Cincinatti in early May to see Dr. Wong and her team at Cincinatti Children's Hospital. Grandma Ginger is coming too to go on adventures with Holly while we are in appointments with Max. We're hoping to visit Michelle in PA while we're up north. Looking forward to a family vacation. Not too excited about the 16-hour drive each way.
-Aunt Patty visited last week! It was great to spend some time with Patty and, of course, the kids loved how she and Grandpa spoil them! We ended her visit with a fun trip to the zoo on Saturday.
That's all for now.
